About the Author

Ljubomir Perkovic joined the CDM School of Computing faculty in September of 2000, after two years on the faculty of the Mathematics and Computer Science department at Drexel University in Philadelphia. Dr. Perkovic obtained his Ph.D. in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, and he holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Hunter College of the City University of New York. His research interests include distributed and wireless computing, computational geometry, graph theory and algorithms, probabilistic analysis of algorithms, and computational thinking. He is Co-PI on an NSF funded project to expand Computational Thinking across the Liberal Studies curriculum. He is also the coach of the DePaul Programming teams.

Not in very good shape as you can see from the photos, a large chunk of the front cover was tore off when it arrived. But, the rest of the pages are in decent shape, and it'll do. Better than buying the book and having to worry about selling it.

Excersise problems are unclear.the book is too busy, and difficult to follow

The way this kindle ebook is formatted makes the book a pain to read. Unlike other ebooks I have used on the kindle app, you cannot zoom or scroll easily. It is very easy to lose your spot on a page when scrolling down. At $40 for this ebook, I regret the purchase.

Wish it contained the answers to the exercises. Not that I would use them before trying hard on my own, but I often feel lost as of what is expected of me from a certain problem.

It was what I expected! A book!

The book came in and was missing the first two chapters and half the third.

great book until I took it camping and rain came in the tent. Took 9 hours to dry it out. Then it was good again

Focusing on thermodynamic analysis--from the requisite first law to more sophisticated applications--and engine design, here is a modern introduction to internal combustion engines and their mechanics. It covers the many types of internal combustion engines, including spark ignition, compression ignition, and stratified charge engines, and examines processes, keeping equations of state simple by assuming constant specific heats. Equations are limited to heat engines and later applied to combustion engines. Topics include realistic equations of state, stoichiometry, predictions of chemical equilibrium, engine performance criteria, and friction, which is discussed in terms of the hydrodynamic theory of lubrication and experimental methods such as dimensional analysis.

About the Author
Dr. Colin R. Ferguson received his M.S. and Ph.D. (1975) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  He taught thermal science courses at Purdue University for twelve years, performing research and publishing in the internal combustion engines area, and is currently living in California. He is an Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University.

Dr. Allan T. Kirkpatrick, P.E., received his B.S. (1972) and Ph.D. (1981) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and has been at Colorado State University since 1980. Dr. Kirkpatrick teaches and performs research in the engines and buildings areas. He has received teaching and research awards from Colorado State University, the American Society for Engineering Education, and Sigma Xi. Dr. Kirkpatrick gas worked both in industry and in national laboratories on energy related research. He has published two books, over 75 conference and journal articles, and has one patent, Dr. Kirkpatrick is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University.

Dr. Prasad Kodukula, PMP, is an award-winning educator, accomplished engineer, author, and inventor with 20 years of professional experience. Dr. Kodukula is co-founder and president of Constant Compliance, Inc., a Chicago-based technology company that specializes in developing and commercializing environmental and homeland defense technologies. His clients include 15 of the Fortune 100 companies and the U.S. government. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Pulitzer Prize winning historian Irwin Unger has been teaching American history for over forty years on both coasts. Born and largely educated in New York, he has lived in California, Virginia, and Washington State. He is married to Debi Unger and they have five children, now all safely past their college years. Professor Unger formerly taught at California State University at Long Beach, the University of California at Davis, and New York University. He is now professor emeritus at NYU..

Professor Unger’s professional interests have ranged widely within American history. He has written on Reconstruction, the Progressive Era, and on the 1960s. His first book, The Greenback Era, won a Pulitzer Prize in 1965. Since then he has written The Movement: The New Left and (with Debi Unger) The Vulnerable Years, Turning Point: 1968, The Best of Intentions (about the Great Society), LBJ: A Life, The Guggenheims, A Family History. He has just completed a book on the 1960s and he and Debi Unger are working on a biography of General George C. Marshall.

What would reaching these objectives do for your children? First, it would insure their success and happiness. This does not mean they would have a life free of problems, but they would have the inner resources to deal with these problems effectively. Instead of becoming burdens to society, as so many are, they would be the lifters and the builders.

Parents would benefit equally. They would be spared the anxiety, worry and usual distress parents experience when children are problems. They would feel pride and satisfaction as they see their children mature inot honorable, happy adults. They would begin to enjoy the rewards of their many years of dedication and sacrifice. Our power to shape a child is profound. We can mold his character, instill a faith in God, build self-worth and almost insure his success and happiness. However, a child is not quite as pliable as a piece of clay. He is born with inherent traits. Our success depends on us recognizing the uniqueness of his personality and guiding him in that direction. Aside from this we have great power to reach high goals, to bring out the best, noblest elements within him.

Success with children should include each one of them, not just the more promising ones. It would be a serious mistake to pass over a particular child because he is a real challenge. Some parents console themselves because they have other children who meet their expecations. I raising children we should not be satisfied with percentages. We must bring all of our children "into the fold."

The role of parents requires diligence, sacrifice and wise priorities, but we can reach success without sacrificing our entire lives to them. It is not wise, in fact, to confine ourselves entirely to our family life. The doting parents who lives only for his children is not a good parent. He must have a well-rounded life, other interests and make contributions outside the home.

It is possible for parents to have such a life of their own, even in a large family. When children are well-trained they become easy to manage. As they become dependable and responsible they become an asset and actually free their parents to do other things. Parents can enjoy the passing years instead of looking to the day their children are raised. Methods of reaching success are outlined in the four parts of this book.
