Our professor told us to buy a new copy of this book, at full price, to get Connect. I did. This brand new book does not have Connect. Connect is an extra $130, the cost of many textbooks. Please note the text, which says: Used - "Access codes and supplements are not guaranteed with used items." However, if you buy new, it omits that text.
Used at Western Washington University in 2010. If corporate finance is interesting to you, you will probably like this book. If the words "corporate finance" put you to sleep, you will probably not like this book. I tend toward the sleepy side of that spectrum, so this book was just 'meh' to me - but it did explain the material and help me pass the class, so I can't fault it too much.Like most people, I rely on honest product reviews to make purchase decisions. Because the experience of others has been so helpful to me, I try to provide honest, helpful reviews to assist other shoppers in selecting the right products for them. This book was a necessity and i really needed it for class
The online assignments are almost stifling if you don't have a good enough help source, but this book covers A to Z in this topic. That being said, it is very dry reading and I spent many late evenings trying to study with this heavy book. It would have been challenging if not impossible to pass if I did not pour the hours into doing the online quizzes meticulously.It is easy to get desensitized to this subject, but that is to be expected and this book does its job of presenting the materials without any discrepancy. For that it deserves credit.
Ross, Westerfield, and Jordan are recognized experts in the field of corporate finance who have produced a solid textbook for any finance student. The format of this book is easy to follow, with many relevant case studies, insightful real-world applications, and how-to sections that give hints on applying techniques to your own real-world problems. The authors are particularly adept at providing a survey of a topic, then systematically drilling down into significant detail on the mechanics of a particular finance technique. Often, these drill-downs end with, "And here's an example of how to do it in Excel..."Overall, a helpful book for the student of corporate finance. As is typical with any textbook, the CDROM is probably helpful, but vastly underused by most students reading this book. The price for the content of the book is in-line with that of most business textbooks. That is, slightly overpriced. If textbook money is tight, a student could get by with a 3rd edition of this book without affecting performance in the course.
Renting this book from Amazon saved me big bucks. It's a very comprehensive text and I managed to get the grade I wanted and feel I actually learned something in the process. Well written and makes a complicated subject interesting.
